Scarecrow post

Scarecrow duty is a post in the open field: arms out or lashed, chest bare, nipples offered. Birds land. Beaks work the nips until the plot is left alone.

Shift ends when the foreman says the birds have learned the post, or when your chest has learned the birds. Both happen.

Some men bid for the post. Some are assigned after a lost bet at the tavern.
