Tropical valley. A tall bamboo water wheel turns over a run of troughs that feed paddies and the municipal freshwater stack. Empty leather and rope rings hang on the rim like decoration. The sound is water, wood, and wind in the grove.

Day tickets buy the postcard view. Dick Coin from the railing go to wheel keepers, not to the man in the ring—if there is one.

Mode A · Sightseeing

Charge-wheel with the loops empty. Sit a safe segment of the rim if the keeper stamps you clear. Water sound, photo line, souvenir stamp. No sentence. No cock-loop. Soft enough for cruise day-trippers who only wanted the card.

Mode B · Punishment / trial

Terms first. Then cock in the ring on the rim. The wheel turns; pull and height do the work. Optional nipple fix on the spokes if the sentence sheet says so. Surrender bell on the hub—ring it and the keepers stop the turn.

Verbs the pier chart uses: Charge-wheel, Cock-loop, Sentence-turn, Bail-water. Audience is optional and written on the same sheet.

Mode C · Dual

One man treads to drive. One man takes the ring. Same consent stack as B—both names on the terms, both can call the hub bell. Bail-water from the tread side can shorten a counted sentence if the sheet allows it.

Where sentences come from

Navy mast — miss the ship, break liberty, Captain's Mast names N turns.

Take Bay contract — signed wheel close-up; film rights and Take Chit on the same desk.

Castaway island tax — voluntary turns to pump water for a strand camp.

Temple fail — cave trap catch, marched to the wheel in public; buyout still for sale.

Couple judgment day — partners write the turn count; keepers only run what both signed.

Consent

Mode A is a ticket. Modes B and C need terms before the ring closes. Public audience is a checkbox, not a default. The surrender bell on the hub is real hardware—use it.
